I am impressed. Very, very impressed. Anyone who thinks "Oh, squares are EASY" maybe hasn't spent their first few projects with mismatched corners and puckers out the ass. So to speak.
I did have to pull a couple pieces apart when I sewed them in the wrong order. I almost let it go, but I knew it would drive me nuts knowing I made a mistake.
I approve! And again, I totally just love the fabric. Where did you get the fabric, and was it in a set of coordinating patterns and colors, or did you pick each one individually?
Awesome. :) I might have to try something similar, though when I pick things that are supposed to go together, the contrast in patterns isn't nearly what it is here, and as a result by stuff looks boring. It's only when I see a project like this that I remember that all these different elements (different shades, patterns, warms and cools) actually do go together well.
When I picked these colors, I knew I wanted blue and green with lots of variation. Each blue has a "matching" green. For example, a dark blue is weighted with a dark green. A "busy" blue is weighted with a busy green. A heavy blue with a heavy green. And so on, if you get what I mean.
The "odd one out" is the brick like pattern that has blues and greens but also pinks and purples etc. That one, in my quilt, is the center piece to each square regardless of the color.
So that's how I got the contrasting colors that sort of match each other, and they fit together really well. I knew that class in creative design would come in handy some day!
That makes perfect sense, and visually as well. I just don't tend to plan when it comes to stuff like this, so it tends to be hit-or-miss. I should plan better. :D
